Water Meter ET

Reading angle

Water Meter VL uses an optical laser sensor to determine the distance between the sensor and the target, such as water. Based on the data provided by the user, the device calculates level, fill percentage and litres.

Sensor field of view

To determine distance, the laser is emitted by the sensor; when it hits a target it is reflected and captured. The final reading is obtained through the algorithm implemented in the Water Meter.

The Water Meter field of view corresponds to a 16° cone. The taller the container, the larger the field diameter at the same height.

100 cm field diameter approx. 30 cm
200 cm field diameter approx. 59 cm
300 cm field diameter approx. 89 cm

Why the angle matters

If the container is too narrow, the walls may enter the sensor field of view and cause offset or completely incorrect readings.

  • Serbatoi molto stretti.
  • Installations with side obstacles.
  • Surfaces that are not perfectly reflective.

Angle setting

In settings, the reading angle can be customised between 15° and 27°.

  • Smaller angle: narrower field.
  • Larger angle: wider field.
  • Choice to be tested according to the environment.

Typical use with water

For water level reading, the default 16° angle is normally suitable and consistent with standard Water Meter use.

Materials other than water

In some cases the angle may need to be changed to measure other materials or liquids, such as dark surfaces or materials that reflect the laser less effectively.

Technical note: Water Meter was designed and tested for use with water. For other materials or scenarios there is no universal configuration: the user must test different reading-angle configurations based on container size and the physical properties of the material.
